Early Post

I'll most likely be away from computers this Friday, so I'm posting this week's post today to get it done.

This news piece aired originally on 3/23/2008 on CBS Sunday Morning. It's about regenerative medicine.

Phobot!

"Phobot is a phobic robot, who's very scared of certain objects, and robots in particular. Phobot is meant as a concept exploring possible support tools for kids with object or location-related phobias. Phobot and the phobic child will help each other overcome fears by following exposure program steps. If you help Phobot out, gradually exposing the little robot to bigger and bigger robots, Phobot will overcome its fears."

Issue Number 10 Is Here!

Hey folks,

I just published issue 10 of If - E - Zine(tm). It's filled with FREE science fiction and fantasy stories. Here's just a sampling:

In "From Here to the Stars!" we meet Tad Manly, a luchador catapulted into worlds beyond known space!

"Rescuing the Dead" sees the return of Sgt. Drake, an ultra-futuristic space marine in hot pursuit of psychics.

"Zalam in the Lost City of Adul-Ra" is a sword & sorcery tale with a giant alien protagonist in a world of might, magic and mechano-men!

Finally, in "Captain Destiny & the Creature from Atrius-99" we read of the exploits of Cpt. Destiny... the first human to discover a planet populated entirely by kaiju!

Super Smash Brothers Brawl

My entire week thus far has been consumed with the new Nintendo WII game Super Smash Brothers Brawl. Its a fighting game filled with classic Nintendo characters and some third-party non-Nintendo characters. It's frantic, seizure-inducing pace and massive amounts of collectibles have kept my obsessive side busy and quite entertained. Today I present to you some screen-grabs from the game.

Squirtle
taking it to Pikachu in the Pokemon Arena

Squirtle teaching Nana and Popo (of Ice Climbers fame) a lesson

Squirtle taking on Master Hand, the final boss in the Classic Mode

I unlocked Solid Snake (from the Metal Gear Solid series) just last night... here he is shooting down Olimar from the Pikmin games

Solid Snake vs. King Dedede (Kirby's rival)

Snake doing what he does best!

Captain Falcon from F-Zero duking it out with Giant Pikachu!

Here's a diorama I made in-game of some of the trophies I've won so far. From left to right: Turret Tusk from Donkey Kong Jungle Beat; HM Mech Rosa from Chosoju Mecha MG; and ROB 64 from Star Fox

Feel free to brag about your own exploits in the game here. Now, if you'll excuse me, I have to go play some more. I'm having withdrawals!

Someone, quick... toss me an elixir of life!

Gary Gygax, who co-created the fantasy game Dungeons & Dragons and helped start the role-playing phenomenon, died Tuesday morning at his home in Lake Geneva. He was 69.

He had been suffering from health problems for several years, including an abdominal aneurysm, said his wife, Gail Gygax.

RIP Mr. Gygax. Thanks for the many years of fun and entertainment.
